World Series Game 7 Captures 51M Audience Members Across the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The exciting extended matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run attracted a total 51M watchers in the United States, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB announced this marks the most-watched World Series finale after the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

The Saturday memorable contest drew 27.33 million audience members on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 ranked seventh, Game 5 came in eighth, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth position.

Global Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game drew 11.6 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 PM local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – drew 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-match series drew over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen audience increases for two consecutive seasons.

Including the opening game broadcast on Univision, the total American viewership was 16.1 million. The overall World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded over 8 million viewers, an eight percent rise over last year and Fox’s best playoff performance after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was televised in 203 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 various tongues.
